Let me summarize how life has become even more difficult in the past 24 hours. First of all, Supermum lost her job yesterday. Just like that, my parents are both unemployed and we are uninsured come May. How can hard-working, honest, creative, energetic and thoughtful people be dismissed? What kind of mother-fucking, conservative, gun-toting jerks dismiss my mom, the most tolerant, easy-going person I know? I can’t wrap my mind around it, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
Secondly, I really like my nutritionist, but even I cannot fully appreciate one’s expertise when one tells me that I cannot consume starches of any sort for a month. After that month of letting my stomach and other organs heal, I can try and see how much starch I can tolerate.
This is all too intense to dwell on right now, so I’m signing off. I usually wouldn’t say something like this: but keep us in your thoughts.

The Pros And Cons Of Professional Conferences
As I mentioned in my last blog post, I just returned from presenting at The Renfrew Foundation Conference. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Renfrew, it is the oldest residential program providing women treatment for Eating Disorders in the United States. Over the years, it has expanded to include an extensive continuum …
The Power Of Vulnerability

The Pair Of Size 12 Jeans
In January 2010 I knew I had an Eating Disorder. I’d lost 3 stone on the second round of LighterLife, binged on several bowls of cereal and gone to the University counsellor, where I learned I might have a problem with binge-eating. I stopped doing LighterLife, hoping beyond hope I wouldn’t put weight on whilst …
The Not-So-Hunger Games
Current film sensation Jennifer Lawrence recently told Life & Style magazine that she, for one, is not going hungry. Lawrence says: “‘I remember when I was 13 and it was cool to pretend to have an eating disorder because there were rumors that Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie were anorexic.’” Now, considered somewhat plump for …
The Innateness Of Movement
I’ve been spending a lot of time with kids and babies these days, and one thing I’ve noticed is that little people love to move. Babies and toddlers like to wiggle and jump. Grade-school kids love to tumble and climb. They dance and scoot and swim and ride bikes. Left unattended, kids will naturally choose …
The Honest Truth About Life With Anorexia
The honest truth about life with anorexia. It’s ugly. It’s limiting. It’s hurtful. It’s harmful. It’s destructive. It’s miserable. It’s numb. It’s oppressive. It’s hell. It’s existing, not living. It’s about missing out on fun. It’s about missing out on experiences. It’s about pretending instead of being. It’s about blaming and not owning. It’s about …
The F Factor
I recently received an email from my niece. Some of you may remember the piece I wrote several years ago about my niece’s graduation entitled, Body of Knowledge. In the piece I wrote about how delightful the tradition of caps and gowns are in the graduation ceremony because they take away any emphasis on the …

The Cure Or…
Dr. Seuss Meets Size Acceptance As a girl I was protected from the Measles and the Mumps but not from the dis-ease caused by chubby thighs and lumps. I felt dejected when rejected and not labeled as a beauty. “Conforming,” I was told, is your moral civic duty.” My mind however knowing, that I deserved …
