Let me summarize how life has become even more difficult in the past 24 hours. First of all, Supermum lost her job yesterday. Just like that, my parents are both unemployed and we are uninsured come May. How can hard-working, honest, creative, energetic and thoughtful people be dismissed? What kind of mother-fucking, conservative, gun-toting jerks dismiss my mom, the most tolerant, easy-going person I know? I can’t wrap my mind around it, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
Secondly, I really like my nutritionist, but even I cannot fully appreciate one’s expertise when one tells me that I cannot consume starches of any sort for a month. After that month of letting my stomach and other organs heal, I can try and see how much starch I can tolerate.
This is all too intense to dwell on right now, so I’m signing off. I usually wouldn’t say something like this: but keep us in your thoughts.

The Circle Game*
Dr. Deah “And the seasons they go round and round…” As spring approaches I find myself thinking about the cyclical nature of life. This isn’t very deep or profound; the circular pattern of the seasons is a topic of contemplation, poetry, and prose with a long history. Depending on my frame of mind, this repetition, …

The Biggest Eating Disorder?
The Biggest Loser winner Rachel Frederickson has made waves across the nation with her 155-pound weight loss. Frederickson dropped about a pound a day, a loss more rapid than any health professional would advise, and landed herself south of a healthy BMI. Many have criticized Frederickson’s new physique, calling her “unhealthy” or “anorexic.” Truth be …

The August Effect
For a month that starts off with National Clown Week, followed by National Smile Week and culminating with American Dance Week (I am not making this up!) one may think the August Effect would be one of laughter, grins, and celebration. And for many it is. But August is also a month of transition. Depending …
The Association Between Creativity, Addiction And Mental Illness
Creativity and Mental Illness The association between mental illness (addictions, bipolar, eating disorder(s), borderline personality disorder, depression, histrionic, schizophrenia etc…) and creativity first appeared in literature in the 1970s, but the idea of a link between “madness” and “genius” is much older. Dating back at least to the Ancient Greeks who believed that creativity came …
The Anorexic Girl Who… Might Not Have Been Anorexic
Possibly triggering, talk of Anorexia and weight gain/loss, from the perspective of a younger me, who didn’t know details about Eating Disorders. There was a girl in college who some assumed was Anorexic, myself included. During my first year (and probably hers too) she was extremely thin, so much so that when she walked past …
The 3 Day Challenge: Observations
Reblogged from Ponderings & Affinities: I’m always up for a challenge, but not a routine. After a week of binging, I once again attempted to get my act together. I am really inspired by those who complete those month-long fitness challenges, but I know that I am not healthy enough to go through with one myself. Of …

Nothing hurts and infuriates those who suffer from an eating disorder and their relatives and family more than hearing all the myths and public misunderstandings about eating disorders and recovery. That Was The Week That Was! NEDA Week: Day 7
Today is the last day of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2014 and it has been an eye opening week for me. I don’t have any hard stats to back this up, but it feels as if this year’s week had a broader reach and more involvement than in recent years. Sometimes I get cynical …
