S

Let me summarize how life has become even more difficult in the past 24 hours. First of all, Supermum lost her job yesterday. Just like that, my parents are both unemployed and we are uninsured come May. How can hard-working, honest, creative, energetic and thoughtful people be dismissed? What kind of mother-fucking, conservative, gun-toting jerks dismiss my mom, the most tolerant, easy-going person I know? I can’t wrap my mind around it, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
Secondly, I really like my nutritionist, but even I cannot fully appreciate one’s expertise when one tells me that I cannot consume starches of any sort for a month. After that month of letting my stomach and other organs heal, I can try and see how much starch I can tolerate.
This is all too intense to dwell on right now, so I’m signing off. I usually wouldn’t say something like this: but keep us in your thoughts.

You Don’t Want To Make Me Angry… Because I’ll Cry

I had a difficult session yesterday, it was the first time I contemplated walking out of the therapist’s office. I’m not that great with anger. It takes me a lot to get riled up properly, mostly because of the ultimate pet hate, which is: 1)      When someone talks in the 3rd person. Hayley gets very …

You Ate It – Now Move On With Your Life!

Just in time for Halloween, some frightening posts appeared on my Facebook feed. Titled, “You ate it. . . Now negate it!” the posts featured pictures of popular Halloween candies, alongside their calorie contents and the amount of exercise required to burn them off. That mini Snickers that sang to you from your leftover stash? …

You Are Beautiful. . . Or Does It Even Really Matter?

The sign beckons me from a parking lot in Santa Monica.  You are beautiful, it says.  And for a moment, I agree.  I am beautiful.  And so are you.  And you.  And yes, even you. It’s such a, well, beautiful sentiment.  We should all acknowledge how uniquely beautiful we are. For years, I’ve worked within …

WW, Part 2

Years ago, I visited a Weight Watchers meeting to learn more about the program and blogged about it here. An anti-diet proponent, I tried my best to be unbiased, and I walked away from the meeting thinking that as far as diets go, WW wasn’t the worst-of-the-worst and that the meeting offered some cognitive behavioral …

Working The Steps : STEP 5

Step 5:  Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.  This step is probably one of the most challenging. It’s one thing to take our moral inventory in Step 4, but it’s quite another to admit our wrongs to another person. While living an addictive lifestyle, …

Workaholics And Eating Disorders

DweezilArt via Etsy.com The loss of empathy and compassion has serious consequences not only for workaholics, but for those who live and work with them. The dynamics that occur when obsessive thinking dominates the psyche of workaholics is similar to those who struggle with eating disorders, their concentrated energy is narrowly invested in a single-minded …
