Let me summarize how life has become even more difficult in the past 24 hours. First of all, Supermum lost her job yesterday. Just like that, my parents are both unemployed and we are uninsured come May. How can hard-working, honest, creative, energetic and thoughtful people be dismissed? What kind of mother-fucking, conservative, gun-toting jerks dismiss my mom, the most tolerant, easy-going person I know? I can’t wrap my mind around it, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
Secondly, I really like my nutritionist, but even I cannot fully appreciate one’s expertise when one tells me that I cannot consume starches of any sort for a month. After that month of letting my stomach and other organs heal, I can try and see how much starch I can tolerate.
This is all too intense to dwell on right now, so I’m signing off. I usually wouldn’t say something like this: but keep us in your thoughts.

Celebrating International No Diet Day With A Comment On Tabloid Weight Loss
At the supermarket recently, my eye caught this display: Yes, that’s right – four weight loss cover stories, all in a single glance. We are bombarded on a daily (read: momentary) basis by content like this. Sometimes, the weight-loss plans these magazines tout as effective aren’t even responsible for said weight loss. In a feature …
Can You Love Your Body Without Really Loving Your Body?
Lose the Diet. Love Your Body. Eat in Peace. Those are three of the major tenets of my work with eating and body image. The order in which women accomplish these goals is fairly standard. First, they give up dieting. While this may be a radical notion for some, usually it’s not too difficult to …

Cake Walking With Lia Schapendonk
One of my all time favorite Taj Mahal songs is Cake Walk into Town. I first heard the song in my mid teenage years when I was learning how to play guitar and loved EVERYTHING Taj! But the line in the song, “Throw your big leg over me Mama I might not feel this good …
By The Way, I’m A Superhero
My master plan was to take a break from blogging to write multiple blog posts in advance and also write some fiction. I haven’t been able to write fiction at all this year, I think because I’ve been so distracted by my Eating Disorder. You know how some ‘artistes’ find they’re inspired by melancholy and …
Bumpy Roads
What do Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, and Kate Middleton have in common? Yes, they’re all famous, and yes, they’re all pregnant, but all three have also been criticized for their pregnancy shape. As if the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy aren’t enough stress to bear, women’s pregnant bodies are constantly scrutinized and judged by …
BULIMIA TREATMENT: WILD HORSES CAN BE TAMED AND SO CAN WILD EATING DISORDERS
The problem with marinating in an Eating Disorder for half of my life is that separating the crazy and impulsive, self sabotaging, destructive part of me from the healthy, stable, calm cool and collected has taken a lot of hard work and focus. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly don’t think I am a […] …
Book Review: The Body Image Survival Guide
Watching a family drop off their daughter at the Victorian – Eating Disorder Treatment is heart breaking. Emotions are high; crying, screaming and bargaining are all quite familiar. Our staff calms the parents and client reminding them that they are making a wise decision to seek help for this deadly mental illness. It is a scenario …
BOOK REVIEW: Restoring Sexual Identity By Anne Paulk
Restoring Sexual Identity: Hope for Women Who Struggle with Same-Sex Attraction by Anne Paulk Harvest House Publishers 2003 269 pp Let me start by saying I first read this book in 2007 when I was at the forefront of my own SSA (Same-Sex Attraction) battle. Book Review – Making Peace With Your Plate
“No one tells you that eating disorders are ugly,” says Robyn Cruze, co-author of Making Peace with Your Plate: Eating Disorder Recovery. “When I was enmeshed in my eating disorder, I felt the opposite. I believed it would keep me safe and in control, and make me desirable. I thought it would protect me from myself.” So, …
