National Eating Disorder Awareness Week Is Feb. 24 To March 2

The National Eating Disorder Awareness (NEDA) Week will take place from Feb. 24 to March 2 of this year.

Many campuses, organizations and clubs across the country are gearing up for events that raise awareness about eating disorders and advocate for better access to treatment programs.

How it works

National Eating Disorders Awareness is the organization behind NEDA Week, and NEDA asks that everyone do just one thing to help raise awareness and provide information about eating disorders to people who may be in the dark.

NEDA suggests many different ways for groups and individuals to get involved, including handing out flyers, creating posters, writing letters for Media Watchdogs or registering as a volunteer speaker to speak at universities, fitness clubs or other places.

NEDA Week 2013

The theme of NEDA Week in 2013 is “Everybody Knows Somebody,” because the organization notes that eating disorders are becoming more and more prevalent throughout the country. Last year, the NEDA participants included people from all 50 states and 30 other countries.

The aim of the week is to prevent eating disorders and change the way that media and society impose negative stereotypes that engender poor body image.
