NEDA Week: Day 4: Dr. Who?

I used to watch the show Dr. Who religiously!  I LOVED it.  And I just returned from presenting at the Popular Culture Association Regional Conference in New Mexico on Healthism and Weight Stigma where they had three hour seminars on Dr. Who!!!  But for those of you who don’t know who Dr. Who is…that is how I felt this morning when a friend of mine sent me a link to an article about Dr. Drew’s daughter being a body positive activist.

Dr. Who?

Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Who knew?

Honest to Betsy (Hi Betsy!  She’s my friend’s sister!) I had never heard of Dr. Drew.  But I loved the article about Paulina Pinsky opening up about her eating disorder and finding her way to body positivity.  I am never “happy” to hear that anyone has or is struggling with an eating disorder, but when someone comes out to the world with a body positive message who has the media’s ear, it is good for all of the young girls and boys who read the e-zines like Frisky etal.  I can scream about body love all I want but the truth is, Dr. Drew’s name has juuuuust a tad more clout than Dr. Deah and if Paulina’s fame means one less article about Renee Zellweger and how awesome she looks since she dropped her Bridgette Jones body and one more article about size acceptance and eating disorder awareness…well that is just a good day in my book.
