Fun Friday: Olympic Opening Ceremony

For the second Fun Friday I thought I’d go a tad patriotic!

I’m definitely proud to be British – we moan a lot, especially about the weather, and I think most of us had such low expectations for the opening ceremony that we were bracing ourselves to never live the embarrassment of showing ‘British countryside’ as our ‘thing’. But I should have had more faith.

I love Danny Boyle, the director of the opening ceremony, who also directed Trainspotting (1996) , 28 Days Later… (2002) and Slumdog Millionaire (2008) was a brilliant choice. As one of my favourite directors, I was excited to see it.

I just didn’t know the Queen was going to skydive with James Bond and Mr Bean was going to make an appearance. #Classic

The only clip I could find on youtube that wasn’t still shots of the opening ceremony was this moment, which took us all by surprise. For those of you who don’t know much about British culture or the Royal family… the Queen never makes comedic appearances like this, even for the Olympics.

I love the fact that the Olympics brings all countries together for competitive sports, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been brilliant so far.

I like the male swimmers. Because I love swimming, of course! No other reason…

Emma

P.s. I know the Queen didn’t actually skydive, but I like to pretend that she did.
