I have been doing alot of research on this topic for you, but i have not come up with a name yet. I would say that if you wanted to stop, you have to have the will and desire first. Then you could probably get help from someone, when they see you spit your food out, have them make you take another bite and hold your mouth untill you swallow. it sounds a little harsh, but after a while, i think it could work. I hope this helps1

Hi Dani: Chewing And Spitting
Amy Colwell – 03/30/2012 – 07:56

Hi Dani:

Chewing and spitting out food is not as uncommon as you may think. However, it is a behavior that is ultimately destructive to your health and wellbeing.

Many experts see “chewing and spitting” as a form of bulimia. Some people do it, believing that it is better than throwing up foood as a weight control method. However, individuals who “chew and spit” are more likely to gain weight due to the food triggering the release of hormones which lead to the release of insulin. Excess insulin in the bloodstream is never a good thing, and can result in metabolic disturbances and weight gain.

The most serious immediate effect of “chewing and spitting” is the damage it inflicts upon your teeth. The presence of food remaining in your mouth causes highly acidic saliva to be released. This results in rotting teeth, and can lead to severe dental erosion.

“Chewing and spitting” is never a good habit, and can be difficult to stop without professional help. Guilt over food waste and poor self-esteem, as well as the need to hide the behavior from others are just a few good reasons to get help to stop this destructive habit.

As with any eating disorder, “chewing and spitting” is often used as a coping mechanism to deal with psychological stress.

As far as I know, the term “chewing and spitting” is used to describe the behavior – there doesn’t appear to be any other name for it right now.

I hope your will reach out to talk to someone about this, and get some help.

Please take care.

Amy
