Women’s Running Magazine Features Plus-Size Model On Cover
In the August issue of Women’s Running magazine, 18-year-old plus-size model Erica Schenk graces the cover.
While the fitness industry – as opposed to the fashion industry – tends to be more accepting of various body types, even size-18 Schenk says she was surprised to see herself front and center on the magazine.
“I had no idea I was going to be on the cover!” Schenk told E! News. “I was initially stunned. I thought it would be a big deal but it turned out to be a MUCH bigger deal than I thought it would be!”
Schenk says she has received a lot of positive feedback and that she “can feel the masses begging for more.”
‘All you need is to be engaging’
Schenk notes that she is proud to be a part of the body acceptance movement, and that lasting change in this area can take a long time.
“With diets, workouts, pills, surgeries, and everything else we forget to love ourselves and our so called flaws.”
The California native stays active by running on the beach, swimming or playing sand volleyball. Her diet consists of “anything that grows,” but she admits to having a weakness for chocolate and cheese.
As for other women who aspire to be famous, Schenk says you don’t need to be a size 2 to get noticed, you just need to be engaging.
“To reach people you can be a blogger, a vlogger, insta famous, or the editor and chief of Vogue,” she explained.
