Cindy Crawford: ‘I Want To Come To Terms With My Body’

Supermodel extraordinaire Cindy Crawford apparently has body image hangups just like the rest of the world.

But the 47-year-old Playboy, MTV and Pepsi bombshell is open about her struggles, admitting how hard she has to work to look good and how even models aren’t 100 percent comfortable in their own skin.

“I’m a normal woman; sometimes I feel pretty good and some days I’m like, ‘Oh my God, nothing fits’,” she said in a recent interview with Net-A-Porter.

From model to mom

While Crawford has been on the modeling scene since the ’80s, now that she’s living a somewhat more “normal” life as a mom, she says she’s ready to embrace middle age.

“My new resolution is that by the time I am 50, I want to have come to terms with my body,” she said.

The mother of two notes how the modeling industry has changed since her days on the runway, and how her professionalism was probably the driving force behind her successful career.

“I thought, ‘I am going to take advantage of this moment, do my own thing.’ I think some of the young girls saw me as someone who used the business back, not just getting eaten up by it.”

After creating a fitness video empire in the ’90s, Crawford says that it’s not all about shedding the extra weight and looking perfect.

“Because for me, being five pounds lighter, what it would cost me … I don’t want to be like, ‘Oh no, no salad dressing, no wine, no fun.'”

On being happy

Nowadays, she says that her go-to look is the “Malibu Mom” style – jeans, a top and a leather jacket – which is a far cry from most model ensembles. Yet Crawford isn’t interested in being happy with her body or herself 100 percent of the time.

“I just want to be present so I can experience whatever emotion is there. Sometimes it’s joy, sometimes it’s not joy, and I’m fine with that. I just want to be real.”
