Finding Contentment With Our Body’s Curves

Making the journey from disliking the curves on our body to being OK with them is a personal one. How this or any journey can be accomplished is for each individual to discover.

To help ourselves along we can listen to what others have to say and experiment with suggestions that resonate with us. Some of the suggestions will help. What does not help we simply let go of.

Becoming OK with Curves: Five Suggestions

  1. Instead of focusing on how your body looks, be amazed at what your body is capable of doing. Be attentive to your body’s movements because movement is something of a miracle. Take pleasure in walking, dancing, laughing, swinging your arms or throwing them around someone and giving a hug. Let yourself be astounded that you can wiggle your fingers and toes.
  2. Start buying and wearing clothes that are comfortable but also fit well and are flattering. Dare to show off your curves whether they are slight or strong. You will appear more confident and may even feel more confident. If you are not sure what style of clothing suits you best, consider visiting Dressing Your Truth.
  3. Look for pictures of inspiring women who make the most of their curves and even use them to their advantage. J. Lo comes to mind, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Beyonce, or check out the model Daisy Lowe who dares to keep her curves. Another option is to look for pictures of successful women of all shapes and sizes who dress well but are primarily focused on achieving their goals.
  4. If you want to become comfortable in your own skin, you cannot afford to spend time with people who are non-supportive. It is very helpful to have a support group of individuals who share your goal. You would be wise to find such a group and join. Other people may not share your goal, but if they are true friends, they will want you to be happy and do well. Good friends will encourage you, compliment you and be pleased when you succeed.
  5. Contemplate self-acceptance and consider adopting it. Self-acceptance has nothing to do with liking everything about yourself. It is being honest and acknowledging what is true about you whether you like it or not. What is true about you is what you actually have to work with in this life. No one can get very far by trying to work with a self that is not real.
