Giving Eating Disorder Recovery A Helping Hand

Eating disorders are a health hazard that can be fatal. Eating disorders should be treated as soon as they are detected. The treatment must be both for the emotional and physical state of the patient.

Eating disorders are the result of a disturbed mind. This is why the patient should be treated in a loving non confrontational way. Heaping shame, blame or guilt can only make the disorder worse because the patient has an eating disorder as a result of underlying psychological problems of shame, blame and guilt. When the disorder is detected the patient must be taken to the doctor for a screening. The next step is to treat the patient through psychotherapy, nutritional counseling, medication, if required and with the help of support groups. In severe cases the patient should be admitted to a residential treatment facility for medically supervised treatment to get rid of the eating disorder.
