Males Can Have It, Too.

Who says only teenage girls suffer from eating disorders?
Recent studies show that 1 out of every 4 men or 25% of the population suffer from the two most common eating disorders – anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
And eating disorders are also not limited to homosexuals. Contrary to popular belief, 80% of men suffering from eating disorders are heterosexual.
The surprising high turnout of men suffering from eating disorders may be due to the fact that the media affects everybody, not just girls. The media have already set the standards of what a perfect body should look like, and everyone wants to have just that. It does not matter whether one is male or female, because the desire to look good is inherent in everyone.
There are symptomatic differences between male and female symptoms of eating disorders. Whereas women focus on their calorie intake, men are more preoccupied with building their muscles and eliminating their fats rather than the food that they eat. Hence, men are commonly seen working out in gyms as compared to women. And while women tend to obsess about having the slim figure, men want to have a chiselled and muscled body, depending on the type of body figure that they would like to possess.
