Emotional Turmoil Is Common In Anorexics And Bulimics

People can suffer from two or more eating disorders at the same time. When they do, they increase their risk of dying from the serious effects that these eating disorders produce.

People can die from bulimia. Bulimics increase their risk of dying when they purge, use laxatives and do excessive exercise. The usual causes of death of bulimics are cardiac arrest, a ruptured esophagus, electrolyte imbalance, and low potassium.

Bulimics purge to try to do away with the calories that they have taken in. They get rid of the food by many ways such as vomiting, taking laxatives and diuretics, exercising, or fasting.

Like bulimics, anorexics fear food or any fluid that they have taken in, so much so that they go to the extent of purging whatever is ingested, including water.

Contrary to the misconception that anorexics do not go on eating binges, many anorexics do occasionally go on binges but purge afterwards.

Whatever may be the eating disorder they are suffering from, anorexics and bulimics are people in emotional turmoil. They are in search of ways to cope with their emotional woes.
