Bulimia Nervosa – A Real Eating Disorder

Bulimia nervosa is a kind of an eating disorder by which the sufferer goes into a cycle of binge eating followed by purging. Usually, Bulimics are too aware and self-conscious of their body weight for the limit that it becomes a priority in their lives. They always tend to seek acceptance from others and they think that acceptance comes from having an ideal weight. So, this creates a clash of feelings, regarding how they are unsatisfied with their weight, thus, they start bingeing as a way to escape from their negative feelings, and then purging as a way to maintain their weight. Purging can include: self induced vomiting, laxatives, fasting, excessive exercises… etc.

Bulimia is more likely to be developed by women rather than men, and it is girls between 18 and 26 that are mostly at risk to develop this disorder.

People with this disorder are unlike people with Anorexia nervosa; bulimics are more likely to know that they have a disorder and therefore seek for help.
