What is Binge-eating?

Binge-eating disorder is characterized by recurrent binge-eating ( consumption of large amount of food) during which a person feels a lack or loss of control over eating.

People with Binge eating disorder characteristically do some activities. They eat much more rapidly than normal people. They eat until they feel uncomfortably full. They take large amount of food when they do not feel hungry. They like to eat alone as they feel embarrassed for over-eating habit. They also feel stressed, disgusted, depressed, angry, sad or guilty after overeating and loosing control.

Unlike bulimia, binge-eating is not followed by attempts to rid the body of the excess food consumed (purging activities i.e. vomiting, excessive use of laxatives or diuretics) or by excessive exercise or fasting. Consequently, People with binge-eating disorder often are overweight or obese. This obesity often brings some health problems like lack of sleep at night, joint pain, muscle pain, menstrual problems and headaches, and some psychological illnesses like anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.
