The Disorder of Binge Eating

Binge eating is a recently noticed disorder. It involves eating unnaturally large amounts of food more as a craving than a need.

The patient with a binge eating disorder eats large amounts of food frequently. The patient is unable to control eating. Binge eaters are often overweight. The disorder is a recently diagnosed problem and research is ongoing with regard to its causes and possible treatment. Binge eating is more common among women in comparison to men. It is caused by psychological problems like depression, negative emotions anxiety and lack of self esteem like other well known eating disorders. Binge eating and obesity cause health problems of high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease. The disorder is treated with therapy and medication. Treatment is a combination of behavioral therapy and anti depressant medication. A regimen of a good diet and exercise will complete the treatment required b y the patient.
