Recovering Anorexic And Obese Man Fall In Love At Rehab

It’s a story that proves true love has no boundaries.

A recovering anorexic and morbidly obese man met in a treatment facility, bonded over their mutual struggles and are now getting married.

Lizzie Elsburg, 24, was just 89 pounds when she checked into a facility for anorexia and bulimia. Her now fiance, Chris Glasgow, 28, was a 489-pound compulsive eater. The couple began dating early this year and became engaged in February.

‘I have body image issues too’

Lizzie says that she found it hard to understand Chris at first, but eventually she realized they were struggling with the same problem: body image.

“At first I was a bit afraid of Chris,” she said. “I couldn’t understand how anyone could let themselves get to that size. But after a while I got to know the person inside. I was able to see past his body issues, because I have body issues too.”

The couple had drastically different treatment plans: Lizzie was required to pile her plate high with food, while Chris had to stick to muesli and salad for dinner.

“It was a little weird at first,” Lizzie said. “It felt like we should swap plates.”

Battling the demons

Chris notes how his junk food addiction and low self-esteem prevented him from believing that he would ever find love.

“I didn’t think any girl would ever find me attractive, let alone one as beautiful as Lizzie,” he said. “There’s no way I would ever hit on a girl like her in the past because I would have thought she’d just laugh at me.”

The couple says that they recognized their mutual determination to beat their eating disorders, which is what drew them together.

Now Lizzie is back to a healthy weight, Chris is on the road to losing weight, and the two plan on moving in together soon.

“I went to an eating disorder clinic to lose weight, and came out with the love of my life,” Chris said.
