Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Exercise For Anorexics

According to the EFT philosophy negative emotions are the result of a disrupted energy balance of the body. Negative feelings arising out low self esteem, anxiety and unresolved emotional issues are generally responsible for eating disorders like anorexia. This implies that a disrupted energy balance could be giving rise to these negative feelings, therefore if the energy balance could be corrected the associated negative feelings would be released. Tapping on certain energy meridians (EFT) of the body helps in restoring this energy balance.
EFT exercises combined with regular medical treatment can help make the process of overcoming anorexia faster. The following EFT exercise could be beneficial for those battling with this eating disorder-

-Tap on the following energy meridians while focusing on your problem. You can repeat the word “anorexia” in your mind as you tap;
-your eyebrows
-both sides of your eyes
-just below your eyes (on the bony part below your eye sockets)
-Below your nose (just above your upper lip)
-Below your chin
-Just below your collar bone
-In line of your throat slightly above your breasts
-Both sides of your body, just below your breasts (use one hand for each side)
-Slightly below your under-arm area (use one hand for each side)
-The back of your hands
-Tip of every finger
-The point which falls in the middle of your index finger and your wrist (on the edge of each hand)

After the first few rounds of tapping your mind will throw up the names of the negative emotions pushing you towards anorexic behavior. Now focus on each negative emotion and start tapping again. After about 8-10 rounds of tapping focus on a positive affirmation like “I love and accept myself” and resume tapping. Continue till you start feeling lighter and calmer. Regular practice of EFT will help release all those negative emotions which may be responsible for your eating disorder. You may also take a friend’s help for this exercise; ask them to tap while you focus on releasing your negative emotions.
