Yoga Therapy For Eating Disorder

A study published in the latest issue of Psychology of Women Quarterly reports that mind-body exercise, such as yoga, is associated with greater body satisfaction and fewer symptoms of eating disorders than traditional aerobic exercise like jogging or using cardio machines. Yoga practitioners reported less self-objectification, greater satisfaction with physical appearance, and fewer disordered eating attitudes compared to non-yoga practitioners.

How awesome is that? You can buy yoga videos at your local wal-mart or video store, but there are probably some yoga classes somewhere near you.

I’ve learned that when I am present in my life, I am able to enjoy the moment and not focus on what could’ve been or what will be. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s possible. Instead of telling myself I can’t, I tell myself anything is possible all I have to do is try. If it doesn’t happen the first time, so what?!

What if you can’t do all of the poses? Consider it just an opportunity to learn something new. Isn’t that what life is? An opportunity to grow, change and live from our authentic self? I don’t know about you, but I don’t ever want to stop growing, learning and changing. If I continued searching for perfectionism, I would end up with nothing. I am perfect in all of my imperfections and proud of it!
