Eating Disorder Guide For Parents
No parent wants his children to fall into the pit of eating disorders. But with the pressures that a teenager has to deal with nowadays, eating disorders seem to become more and more common among teenagers. Therefore, parents should know what to do in case these problems arise in their children.
One thing that parents should know is that eating disorders arise from a teenager’s need to exercise control over her own self. It would then be helpful to let your child make his own guided decisions on certain things. Let her exercise her independence in simple things.
Eating disorders often occur to perfectionist children, such as those with a “good girl” image. Parents should avoid comparing their children to other children, because they will just be hard on themselves and resort to poor eating habits, believing that they are not good enough for their parents.
Teenagers with eating disorders require lots of understanding from their parents. Do not deprive them of that.
