Troubled Bridge

Eating disorder has shared so much with drug addiction. The commonalities between the two are with major Risk Factors. This has led many treatment facilities to look into the possibilities of the other when one is present. Like when someone is diagnosed to have eating disorder, it is advised to also check if the person is drug dependent.

To take up the major risk factors, we start with the most common. Both eating disorder and addiction may occur in times of transition or stress. When somebody is having difficulty coping, there is a big chance of either doing drugs or fall into any form of eating disorder or even both.

It is also found in studies that both the addict and the one with disorder have common brain chemistry and the family histories are similar. Low self esteem characterizes both the person with addiction and eating disorder. Those who are also involve in both have depression and anxiety attacks.

It is always advisable to have someone who is suffering in one problem to be diagnosed for the other so that the treatment will be adjusted to simultaneously cure both.
