Take A Stand

Disordered eating is a national epidemic, 90% of whose victims are female. It is largely ignored and trivialized by the U.S. government, and perpetuated by the U.S. media.

Victims are mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, friends.

Can you boldly declare:

I am a woman who recognizes the devastating effects, both physical and mental, of eating disorders on modern American women.

I am an American woman who either struggles with an eating disorder, or who has struggled with an eating disorder at some point in my life.

I am an American woman who knows someone who is presently battling an eating disorder.

I recognize that eating disorders are rooted in a negative self-image and low self-esteem, often ingrained and/or fostered by the media’s misrepresentation of women.

I am tired of being invisible. I am tired of being just a nameless, faceless statistic. I have a face. I have a name. Look at me, because I am not hiding anymore.

I refuse to be silenced in my own nation. I have a voice and I deserve to be heard.

I am sick of the American media’s inaccurate portrayal of the “average” woman.

I am tired of seeing REAL American women underrepresented in the media.

I am tired of the government’s apathy as concerns eating disorders among females.

I believe that nothing short of a social revolution will cure the epidemic that is eating disorders in American culture.
