Slam Launches New Intensive Program In The UK For Girls Who Suffer From Anorexia
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) have joined forces and opened an intensive treatment program for girls suffering from anorexia nervosa.
The Program
The program is an intensive day program. That combines several different types of therapies. It focuses on individual counseling and family therapy. The program also allows for the girls to continue their educational studies at the facility. The girls eat meals with the staff and often their a family member. This helps the girls receive the support they need to actual eat the meal. The program is open to girl’s ages 11 to 18 years old though out the United Kingdom. The girls attend the program from 8am to 8pm Monday though Thursday with a shorter day on Fridays. The first level of the program lasts six weeks then the girl move on to a multi-family therapy. During their first six weeks, they do regular schoolwork, participant in fun and creative activities and group and cognitive therapy.
The Participants
The girls that are treated at the program have serious cases of anorexia and use and depend on the family style treatment plans to avoid the need for hospitalization, as many young girls with anorexia do not do well in a hospital situation.
