Folic Acid Deficiency
Folic Acid (Folacin) is necessary for the division of body cells and for the production of RNA and DNA, the substances which carry hereditary patterns. As a coenzyme it is required for the utilization of sugar and amino acids. Folic acid is stored primarily in the liver.
Severe folic acid deficiency results in macrocytic(large cell) anemia which is characterized by stomatitis, glossitis, diarrhea, and changes in the intestines. Less severe deficiency result in fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath and a grayish-brown skin pigmentation.
