Do I Need To Get Help?

I Lost 10 Pounds In 3 Days A
mysticalight822 – 01/19/2010 – 23:52

I lost 10 pounds in 3 days a couple months past, but my mom made me eat more (at least 1,000 calories a day). Now I am very uncomfortable in my own skin and every time I look in the mirror I see fat. I restrict my calorie intake to as little as I can, and I feel guilty when I eat more than 500 calories.
Today I had pizza and I’m panicking, is that bad?

Mystic..Yes, You Do Need

mystic..Yes, you do need help. The extreme weight loss you mention can be very dangerous. Even the calorie amount that your Mother insisted you eat is below half the amount needed for a young adult female. I don’t know your age, but during your teens and twenties, you need a sufficient amount of calories to complete growth and to face the life changes that are occuring. The amount that you restrict at can lead to fainting, heart problems or even death, even though you may not feel ill.
You need food. And you need to see a professional who can help you process what the emotional components are that are adding to the ED problems. Please talk to a school counselor, or to your Mother about seeing a professional. You don’t want to jeopardize your health and your life this way!! Take care.

Thank You For The Advice,

Thank you for the advice, there is actually an eating disordered group where I live that I plan on attending next week. I’ll see how it goes, at least I’ll be talking to someone about what is going on in my head.

Yes, you do need help and the great thing is that you realize it! It takes a lot of people to get to that point. So I would please please please tell your mother, and go to the group. Perhaps your mom also can find an eating disorders specialist either in your area or nearby (I travel 2 hours one way to see mine.)

Let us know who you are doing, okay?

Angela

You Do Need To Be Seeing A
janurse427 – 02/01/2010 – 09:23

You do need to be seeing a professional. Did you attend the support group? While you may feel awkward about reaching out for help, you DO deserve to live your life free from this!! You CAN recover, but trying to do it alone is very self-defeating. Maybe the forum at www.supportgroups.com for eating disorders would also be a good source of support. Please take care..Jan
