Workplace Bullying Linked To Bulimia

Bride-to-be Britt Pilton, 29, feared she would eventually be forced to quit the job she loved after a 12 month ordeal. Even when she approached her union for help, her tormentor found out and ‘pumped up the pressure’, the hearing was told.

‘This one person would go round and bully a different teacher until they left and Britt felt she was the next one,’ said Kelly Parkin, a teacher at the school and close friend to Ms Pilton. ‘She said it was horrible.’

On February 23, the day she died, Ms Pilton had been left panic-stricken after her lesson notes mysteriously disappeared. She suspected they had been deliberately removed from a photocopier by the colleague bullying her but had no proof.

Shortly after 3pm she was found unconscious on the floor of a school toilet. Despite attempts to revive her she died.

Ms Pilton, who was due to marry fiancé James French in the summer, had previously fought a long battle with the eating disorder bulimia and had been prescribed anti-depressants, the inquest was told. But her condition deteriorated because of the anxiety she suffered each day at Rotherham’s High Greave Junior School.
